Day 4 – The Installation
Welcome Back!
Welcome to day 4 and we’re getting closer!
Today you will start seeing some major progress.
In Today’s Lesson we will cover:
- Installing WordPress to your server
- What to do about my design?
- How do I add my Content and Pictures?
- What is today’s Short Cut?
- Where do I go from here?
1. Installing WordPress to your Server
If you have Blue Host WordPress is already installed. However if you are using another host we’ll help you get everything done.

Now you have the WordPress software on your computer, you’ve set up your domain name and tested it to confirm its working. Today you will set up your databases and install WordPress. Make sure you note the database name, user name and password for your MySql databases you will need for WordPress.
Today we’re going to upload and install the WordPress software.

Congratulations, its finally installed and working!
Always go to your domain name: http://www.yourdomain.com to verify that everything is working.
2. What to do about my design?
In tomorrow’s email we will offer you lots of choices and explain how to implement your chosen design in WordPress. Today you should know that it’s very easy to try out different designs-to turn them on and off in WordPress so you will have plenty of opportunity to experiment.
3. How do I add my Content and Pictures?
Once you have your site up and design chosen we will show you how to add your content and pictures to your web site. You should start thinking and figuring out what and how much content you plan to add. You will also need to figure out what goes where. What will be on your home page, will you have categories, will you want tabs or a list. Now is the time to think about the taxonomy of your site.
4. What is Today’s Short Cut?
For those using Blue Host you will soon be able to implement a variety of options to help you build an email list and get your site indexed in the search engines. You can even offer streaming video and audio as well as do surveys. All included in your Blue Host account.
What if you are not on Blue Host? We will provide a resource page for you to find many of the above services too. So stay tuned.
