Day 3 – Ready, Set, Go!
Welcome Back!
As they say action speaks louder than words and today is a day of action.
Today we will cover:
- Downloading WordPress to your computer
- Database set up on your host
- Setting up your Database with a CPanel
- What is today’s Short Cut—How can I do this faster?
1. Downloading WordPress to your Server
If you have signed up for Blue Host then skip to section 1A below.

If you are using a different host the first step is to download a copy of WordPress to your computer. You will need to go to http://wordpress.org/download/ and download the “zip” version of WordPress to your computer. Make sure you set up a separate folder for WordPress on your computer.
Click on the blue button which says “Download WordPress 2.85”
Once you have it in your special WordPress folder unzip the contents of the file and put them in the same folder.

In BlueHost you will just need to go to your CPanel. Then go to software and services and click on the WordPress icon. Click on the green Install button on the bottom right of the page.
Set up a username and password to access your site.
Click the “agree to” for the software use agreement
Click ok when it asks you to overwrite what is on the disk (assuming that you have installed any other software or data you don’t want erased).
Wait about 30 seconds and you’re done!!!
Now you need a design and we’ll get to that in the next part of the course.
