So let’s get started…
What is a website anyway?
A website is your home on the Internet where anyone in the world can find you 24 hours a day. With you website you can be serving your customers while you sleep, play or work. Every website has an IP address. This is a unique number that enables all the servers around the world to find you. Your IP (Internet Protocol) address is tied to a “word” address. For example http://www.cnn.com has an IP address of 157.166.255.18 which means you can find it by typing in the name cnn.com or the IP address.
How will Customers find my website?
Your website is found by referrals. Visitors are either referred by another website that links to you, a search engine like Google or by a friend who recommends it. We will discuss a variety of strategies that are utilized to help prospective customers find your site.
Do you have a website Plan?
We’re going to show you how to build and design a website but you need to put information or content on the site. If you haven’t done so already you should begin thinking about what you want your website to do for you and what information you want to put there.
Do you have a Domain Name for your Website?
In tomorrow’s mini-course we will show you have to register a domain name for your site. However you need to start thinking about what name you would like to use for your site. Keep in mind that virtually all the generic or obvious names, like shoes.com, realestate.com and loans.com are long taken. So you will need to be a little creative here. Of course if your name is unique like Diddy Frankovitz you’re in luck as http://www.diddyfrankovitz.com is available!
But, Todd, I want my website today and I don’t want to wait a week to get it. What do I do?
Well today’s Short Cut is to wait till tomorrow (sorry!) but we want to make sure you do your website correctly and completely so tonight do your homework and we’ll be ready with our first Short Cut tomorrow.
Tonight’s Homework:
1. What is my website plan-what do I want my website to do for me?
2. What should my websites name be?—think of unique names that sound like your business
Thanks for reading and watch your email for tomorrow’s mini-course lesson.
We’ll see you tomorrow!
All the best,
James Todd
