How to Setup Your Public Profile in WordPress

Hi, welcome to BuildMySiteForFree.com. Today’s video is about how to set up your public profile. And the first thing you’re going to do on your dashboard is come down to the user’s section and you’re going to open up the submenu and click the very last link called ‘Your Profile’ and that’s going to bring you to your profile page where you have options to set. The first is your personal options and here we have visual editor and now by default this is not checked because your visual editor is all the formatting options you have on any adding a new post which you can check out in our ‘Add New Post’ video. And if you don’t want the visual editor when you’re writing opposed and you’d rather use HTML we just simply don’t want the visual editor you can go ahead and click this and it will disable that.

Then underneath you have the choice of what color you want your dashboard scheme to be so by default this is always gray, but we have the option to change it to blue. And depending on the WordPress version that you have, you many have other colors as well.

Under keyboard sections if you click this box you can enable keyboard shortcuts for comment moderation, which basically just allows you to quickly navigate and perform different actions on your comments. So if you’re getting a lot of comments a day, this is just kind of a cool feature to have.

And your next option if you want the administration bar shown you can choose to have it in your site, or in your dashboard, by clicking either of those boxes.

Then next you have some of your personal information you need to add. The only thing that‘s required is a nickname and display name so you can choose to write your first name, your last name, you need a nickname and you need a name that you want displayed publicly. The only thing that you cannot change is your user name so as you can see I cannot even click the box it will not let me change it.

Then next you have your contact information. And the only thing required in this section is your email and this is the email where all of your comments will be sent whenever you get a comment or a post. This will be sent to this email that you type in right here.

And the next few options are if you have an ID for a chat room, you can put it in any of these boxes.

Our last section we have is the ‘About Yourself’ section. And here you can type in a little biography about yourself however you want, to be creative. The only suggestion I do have is be careful what you do put in because search engines can pick up on any of the information that you add and it’s for everyone and anyone to see. So you may just want to be careful with exactly what you’re giving your viewers.

And the last part you put in your password. You have to type it twice. It will tell you how strong the password is and anytime you want change your password to come to the section. And another word of advice I would constantly change your password as well, maybe once every month, every two months, ‘cause it prevents hackers from getting into your blog.

And then once your completely done filling out all of these sections you want to update your profile because this will save the changes that you’ve just made. And that is how you set your public profile. Thank you for watching
