How to Preview Themes on WordPress

Hi, everyone! Welcome to BuildMySiteForFree.com. In today’s tutorial, I’m going to show you how to preview themes before you download them. For me, I always like to see what it’s going to look like before I actually download it on my blog because sometimes it may not actually look like the way you want it to or you may just really not like the set up of it. So, in today’s
video I’m going to show you two ways to go about this. I’m going to show you how to preview a theme using the ones that you already have available on your dashboard, and I’m also going to show you how to preview a theme from the WordPress themes directory.

First, let’s show you how to do it right from your dashboard. What you want to do is scroll down to where it says appearance on your navigation menu. Once you’ve opened up the submenu, you want to scroll down to where it says themes. This will bring you to the manage and install themes page. What I want to do here is preview a theme that have available already. It’s not the theme that I am currently using, but it’s one that I have already installed onto my computer. I’ll show you both of them. Here is the first one. All you have to do is scroll down to preview, or you can actually just click the picture right here. It will show you what that theme would look like if I was to choose it. So, this is the exact layout of how it would look on my blog. I’ll scroll down a bit and just show you every little bit of detail that would appear on your blog if you’ve chosen this. Exactly how the boxes will look and what colors it would be. Then, I’m just going to X it out right here.

For this one, I’m going to do the same thing, just click it. It’s the same thing. It shows you the header and the way all the sides would look like down here. Even if you scroll all the way down to the bottom, it will show you how boxes will appear on your blog. I’m just going to X out of this one as well.

Now, if I want to preview a theme that I find on the  WordPress themes directory, I will come to that page right here. All I have to do is click on a specific theme that I want, and instead of obviously choosing download, you want to click on the actual title right here. It will bring you
to a page that gives you a little bit more information on what kind of theme it is and if the author added an option to download and preview. So, here all you  have to do is click this green button here that says preview. A link will open on how this theme will look. Here is the header once again. It shows you how every little link is going to look. Even if I scroll down, it shows you how the layout of the blog will look with all the different headings and all the different types of boxes that they show. What’s great about this is it gives you exactly how everything is going to appear on your page from top to bottom. It even show you how the bottom of the theme will look, the sides, the top. It’s a really great feature to preview it before you download it because there may be something about it that you don’t like, and that will change your mind to use another theme.

Once you have actually chosen your theme, you download it rom here. That’s going to be on our next video on how to activate and install
themes. Please stay tuned for that video and more. Thank you for watching.
