How to Install Plugins Through Search Option on WordPress
Hi, everyone! Welcome to BuildMySiteForFree.com. Today’s tutorial is going to be about how to install plugins through searching for them, and for those of you that don’t know, plugins are little programs that interact with your software to provide some sort of expansibility to that specific software. So, basically it’s allowing you to customize your site to the way that you prefer it to look and be. Most of them are available at no charge, and there are a few ways that you can actually install these plugins. Today, I am going to show you how to install it through searching for them on your account.
First I’m going to scroll down the navigation menu and open up the plugins link. Then you want to scroll down to where it says add new. This is bring you to the install plugins page. There’s a few things that I want to explain to you first about this page. Right up here where I am actually scrolling my mouse cursor, there are a few links you can click. By clicking upload, you can actually upload zip file plugins. By clicking featured, you can find a list of all the featured plugins. Then, you by clicking popular, you can find all the most popular plugins that are out right now. You can then find the most newest that have been created, and lastly you can find all the recently updated plugins. So by clicking any of links you can find a long list of plugins in each category.
Another way you can find plugins is by coming over here and clicking the WordPress plugin directory, and it will bring you to a page with thousands and thousands of plugins you can search through and then install and activate. But, if you also know what kind of plugin you might be looking for, you can come down here to this search text box, and you can type in a keyword, an author, a tag. First you may want to choose from the dropdown menu which one of those it is. I’ll just click term or keyword.
Today, I want to search for an avatar plugin. I’ll just type in avatar, and then you want to click search plugins. This will bring you to a
page with a list of all plugins relating to avatar. Just to explain what you are looking at, you will notice the name of that specific plugin. It will give you the version and the rating that they’ve given that plugin, and it will also give you a description so you can know what kind of features your plugin has before you actually install it. You will also notice that these have been installed already to my blog, so it will say installed, but if it hasn’t, it will say install now. This is what I’m going to show you today.
So, I’m just going to choose this one here. I’m going to click install now, and I’ll just open this link in a new tab. Here is my installing for that specific plugin. So, you will see the name of it right up here. Then, all you have to do to do this is click activate plugin. Once you’ve clicked this, it will actually activate your plugin. I’m going to go ahead and click activate. It takes about a second, and already it will be on your plugins
page and show the status as activated.
One last thing too is you can scroll down to the very bottom, and you will notice that it has been added to your list. Once again, it gives you the information for that plugin in. Since it says deactivate, it means that plugin is now active and able to use on your blog.
This is how you install plugins through the search option. Please stay tuned for more videos on plugins.
