Adding Content to WordPress – Step 6
The next step is to add content to your website. Content consists of both text and media such as images and video.
Adding content to WordPress is especially easy. If you’ve used Word or notepad then you’re on your way!
If you are not currently in your WordPress dashboard you will need to sign into your account by going to the WordPress admin sign in page: http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin.
Once signed in to your site dashboard you will see 3 categories on the left toolbar, Pages, Posts and Media. Posts are what you regularly add, Pages are static and Media is for posting of images and videos.
For example, the “About Us” section would be set up as a page while information as to How to Plant a Flower would be a Post. Posts are included in your RSS feeds and Pages are not.
Let’s put up a Post. Just click on the Post link and you will see a one line box for the title and the big box is for the content. If you would like to copy and paste from a Word or Text document then click on the and icons on the bottom row of the toolbar above the main content input box and paste it there.
Don’t forget to save your Post by clicking on the “save draft” button in the upper right Hand corner. Once you have finished your Post you can Publish it immediately or at a later date by clicking on the “edit” link next to “Publish immediately” in the same box.
Below the Publish box you will see where to add Tags and that you can set up categories and assign your articles to the categories.
Now you can publish your Post and view it on the home page of your site.
Congrats! You’re on your way to online success.
To add Pages its basically the same thing. The key difference is that there are not categories or tags to choose.
