How to Use the All in One SEO WordPress Plug In

Search engine optimization (SEO) can be a pretty daunting process when you set up your own website, yet it’s absolutely vital you pay attention to your search engine ranking.  If you don’t appear on the first page of search results most people won’t find your site because very few actually click through to the second page.

Experts are paid thousands of dollars to improve SEO for websites, with years of experience and knowledge to call upon.  So when you’re creating your own website, it’s important to use some of the free and inexpensive tools out there so that you can improve your search engine ranking yourself.  The All in One SEO pack is an excellent WordPress plug in to help increase the level of organic traffic coming via the major search engines.  Once you’ve created your site using the website builder program, all you need to do is download the plug in from our resources page and customize it to suit your needs.

How the All in One SEO plug in Works

Basically this plug in helps you to make your website much more search engine friendly but without the need for technical knowledge or experience.  What it does is allows you to change and control the title, description and keyword META tags for your home page and every other post you write.  This is a key advantage when it comes to search engine ranking because otherwise WordPress automatically uses your blog tagline to generate keywords, title and descriptions.  This is not as effective in generating traffic volume from search engines.

How to Use the All in One SEO Plug in

  • First install and activate the plug in.  Simply click on the link on our resources page once you’ve created your site using the website builder.  It’s so simple to activate as it comes with a read me installation file.
  • Next you need to customize the plug in to suit your website. Go to the options tab in the WordPress dashboard and click on All in One SEO pack.  This gives you an options menu which you can then complete and customize.  It’s important you try different settings and options so that you can see which strategy works best for your site.  Here are some ideas:
  • Home Title, Description and Keywords: it’s important you give these fields the attention they deserve.  The title will appear on your blog’s index page and you need to add some keywords into the title.  In the description use no more than 160 characters and explain what your site is about.  Think about what your target market want to read and really appeal to them.  Then in the keywords field use your keyword research to add the most successful keywords for your site.  List up to five, separated by a comma.
  • Use Categories for META keywords: here’s where you can really make a difference to your search engine success.  It’s probably best not to have this box checked so that you can insert the keywords you want for each post.  This is much better than WordPress automatically using the category title as keywords, which are less specific and can end up being duplicated.  This can be detrimental to your search engine ranking.  Do some keyword research to find out which search terms might bring in the most traffic to your site.  Then once your site is up and running you can use a plug in such as Google Analytics to see which keywords are most successful and use similar search terms to create new posts.
  • Use No Index for Archives and Tag Archives: it’s best to have these boxes checked, as this can help to prevent the creation of duplicate content in your post pages, which is not good for SEO.
  • Autogenerate Descriptions: if you are confident about writing descriptions, then uncheck this box.  Then you can create your own descriptions which can really help to improve your search engine ranking.  Make sure they are no longer than 160 characters and that they include the keywords for that post.  The description is what visitors will see on the search engine results page, so make sure it will attract them to click on your site.
  • Update options: once you’ve set your option choices click “update options,” which concludes the initial set up of your plug in.

Using the All in One SEO Pack Plug in

Once you’ve carried out the initial installation and completed your website builder program, you now need to create all the interesting content for your visitors.  Every time you write a post or page there are various fields to fill in to define the title, description and keywords you want to use.   This plug in is so simple to use but it can have such a dramatic impact on your search engine results, increasing the overall success of your WordPress website dramatically.
